MS looking to be 'Home' wreckers?

What do you guys think?  I think it is a little risky, seeing as Playstation's Home hasn't proven to be a success, but then again, I guess if it going to be a success worthy of emulation, MS can't sit back and wait to see if it works, or they will look like Johnny-come-latelys.  Personally I'd rather see Nintendo do something like this using the Animal Crossing world.MS looking to be 'Home' wreckers?

I've kind of went back and forth on Home, and I guess it won't be until I've actually used it that I finally make my mind up on it. The thing that keeps sticking with me is that it's a social network, which is good, but it's a social network that is removed from gaming, which is bad. I think Live strikes the perfect balance because it allows me to jabber with my friends while playing (even across completely different games), but it keeps the experience focused on the reason I turn the console on to begin with: To play a game. I'm still not sure how I'll feel about going into a virtual world through my console, because I view my console's primary goal as a game player. I think I'll tire quickly of decorating a virtual house or dressing a virtual me, because those are things I do in real life. I'm not interested in substituting real life, I want to escape it. That said, I don't think Microsoft needs to go after Sony in this area, but I sure don't think it's going to hurt them if they do. I think it's a little cheap and copycattish, though, and usually copycats are pale imitators to theoriginal concept.
To be honest...I always thought Home was a waste of time and resources in the first place and even more dissapointing MS is showing interest in it. When really what it is looking like to be is Microtransactions and Advertisement heaven. And I think gamespot really hit the mark with the majority of people using it...OMG let me post Porn on the pics!!! ZOMG lets have Race wars...something like on par with a PSO lobby or Barrens Chat.Personally...I rather have MS make stuff like tieing in the Xbox forums to 360. Web Browser, Making more Codecs work. Pretty much more useful stuff...then playing with a dolly.

I'm saying it is unproven.  I am actually pretty positive about the future of Home.

This virtual world thing sounds like something that will wear off rather quickly. I actually don't see myself turning my console on to walk around decorating my house, hanging achievements on the wall (instead of displaying trophies), etc. In fact I don't think I want it and I don't see a need for it. I don't see a need for somthing like ''hey Shameus, let's take some time off from gaming to see our characters dance with other people, isn't that fun?''
Monkey see, monkey do.

[/QUOTE]I'm a beta tester for Home and it has some pretty interesting game-related stuff. Thereis an 'arcade' with a couple minigames (remember that helicopter minigame from its GDC unveiling?) and the option of playing chess, pool and bowling (all of which play well though I suck at everything but bowling). I can see private 'homes' being a good place for clans and suchlike to meet. That being said, I think that even if Home is perfectly done and well moderated (right now its well moderated, but its vastly easierto moderate a small group of beta testers than it is to moderate a large community) it won't be the be all end all. Like you said, cross game communication is huge (I've met some pretty cool people during my rare forays into Home, but aside from brief text messages we don't communicate much because communication means sitting at the dashboard as opposed to playing games) and something that is sorely missing from PSN.
As for MS being inspired by Home, that's no skin off anyone's back (on the consumer side of things anyway) so I don't see the harm.
I can't believe people are saying negative things about home. It's free, and it's not required. So what the hell is the problem? I think it's a great idea.
MS is known for doing all sorts of wacky research projects, most of them are just shelved after a while. I wouldn't be surprised if they would consider trying it even if nothing might come of it.
the concept of home is to get people who dont go online to get online.

so its not actually aimmed at any one who plays online games already.

although why did it choose that art style? it really strikes me as strange to choose such a immensly standard style. this isnt going to grab any ones attention. from my expereince with obilivon and smack down, creating a character in the home way is NOT fun

compare that to the quick easy, and fun methods of the miis. and you notice a clear flaw in home's direction.

home should of gone with something more like little big planet. infact they should of taken that, combined it with the home functionality, and they would of had a amazing product.
