Aces of the Galaxy is a promising looking XBL game (56K warning)

Downloads of classics are well and good, but its quality original stuff that gets me really excited. Its been a while since a really kickbutt forward scrolling shooter was released. According to IGN the release date is undetermined (December 2007-1st quarter 2008) but it sounds and looks really exciting. IGN uses casual in a difference sense than I do (I think of casual as raising puppies, not going through a 3D 'bullet hell').Aces drops you into a spaceship, puts you on rails, and throws dozens of enemies at you in a near non-stop storm of gunfire. There are an insane number of enemies at any moment, so much so that it can be difficult to follow the action unless you make a living kicking ass at rail shooters.

The options for combat in your ship are fairly straightforward. You can roll your ship left and right with the tap of a button, and fire missiles or homing torpedoes with ease. It's standard stuff. But, as a nice twist, there are two commands somewhat more unique to a rail shooter. You can enter ''hypertime,'' which slows things down so you can more easily dodge incoming missiles and watch enemies explode in slow motion. You also can use a scanner to send out a signal that searches for invisible enemies and items. With so many things coming at you, there's rarely an opportunity to scope for hidden goodies. It's a risk/reward system. You may find something invisible to shoot, but you may end up getting tagged by a few missiles while distracted.
