Kingdom hearts 1 sephiroth battle and the ant queen on champions of norrath
I haven't played many difficult games but I'd have to say that the final boss of Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time is really hard. 3 forms, each having enormous amounts of HP and attacks that can kill you in one hit. And when you die in the 3rd phase, you have to restart all the way from the beginning - it can take up to 30 mins to get back to the third form, including cutscenes. I must have died 50-60 times on that boss (I remember spending a whole summer holiday just on that boss).

the hardest boss ever fought must be the FF8 in the ending boss! omfg 5 bosses in a row!

syztem's answer is the right one:D C'Thun from WoW literally couldn't be killed until Blizzard fixed him. I never fought v 1.0 C'Thun but I feel sorry for the guilds that banged their heads against that brick wall over and over. Some tough boss fights in the history of that game for sure, especially the ones that were bugged or brokenSingle-player games: -The final two fightsof Super Ghouls n' Ghosts... game's hard enough using the best weapon but then at the end it forces you to use a crappy weapon to beat it-Fire Leo in Viewtiful Joe-most of the bosses in Ikaruga and Gradius V-the optional bosses in the Final Fantasy games that people speak of and the Kingdom Hearts games although I never really bothered to make a serious attempt on those. -I am losing memory of the NES days but I recall some bosses in Contra and the Ninja Gaiden games as well as the Grim Reaper in Castlevania -I thought Agni and Rudra from DMC3 were vicious, I had a lot more trouble with them than I did Vergil-Final boss of Half-Life 1 and Ares from God of War on God Mode-And we can't have a tough boss thread without mentioning Mike Tyson :D

SEGA Bass Fishing (Wii) Announced.

I don't know how old this is. CVG reports that SEGA announced that it's currently developing its Wii version of Bass Fishing. It seems that it will use both remote and nunchuck. I believe that this type of game has a lot more potential buyers than the source thinks. SEGA Bass Fishing (Wii) Announced.
If there were anything the Wii needed more of, it's fishing games. No, I don't think this will sell very well, if only due to it likely being a title that SEGA does no more than get on a few store shelves.SEGA Bass Fishing (Wii) Announced.
I really enjoyed Sega Bass Fishing for the dreamcast(I had the controller and everything!). I may just buy this game...sp there, there is one sale!;)
There sure seem to be a lot of fishing games coming out for the Wii. At this rate FPS is going to stand for something completely different on the Wii.FPS = Fishing Pole Simulator
Yippie!Get Bass without the Controller which made the game unique and Wii磗 idea came from...great...*sarcasm involved* I go play the original...like with Samba de Amigo...
I think this is awesome. I don't own a Wii so I have one question. Does the controller rumble?I have always loved fishing games, because firstly I've always loved to fish since I was a little boy (especially for bass) and secondly, I love fishing games, because it gives you a chance to actually see if your real life techniques to catching the big ones works in game.I especially love the arcade ones where the pole actually pulls back as the fish fights, and if the Wii remote rumbles it would give it that arcade sense of a feel of the fish actually biting back. I believe this game will have a big consumer market. Not only will kids be purchasing this game as a fun way to waste time, but also every outdoorsman and angler alike. And even if they aren't outdoorsman/angler type people, I believe that a lot of adults will be purchasing this game as well, to have fun and remember the good ol' days when them and their father used to go fishing on early Saturday mornings and what not. So yeah, I think this game will be a big seller, and as soon as I purchase a Wii, I know it will be on my games list.
Yay.....................
Since I have all the various SEGA fishing games for the Dreamcast, along with the controller, and I don't see any reason for me to get the Wii version, but for everyone else out there be VERY excited. It showed how immersive a game could be with a responsive and contextual controller.

FATAL FURY (NEOGEO, 1-2 players, rated T for Teen - Violence, 900 Wii Points): Released in 1991 and one of the longest-running series in the fighting-game genre, this title introduced players to Terry Bogard, Andy Bogard and Joe Higashi. Select one of the three and visit many locations as your chosen fighter engages in numerous street fights around the fictional city of South Town. If you're good enough, you'll eventually take on Billy Kane and then his boss, the notorious crime lord Geese Howard. Use each fighter's own finishing maneuver and battle in two different planes on the screen, one in the foreground and the other farther away in the background. The game also features a two-player mode that is well known for its unique setup, which allows fighters to both fight and help each other. The fighters compete against each other to become the world's toughest combatant, with players using a setup consisting of only three buttons (one each for punching, kicking and throwing). Adding to this unique system is the fact that the strength of your offensive blow depends on how long the button is pressed and held. Three fighting games? I still need to get Landstalker...
Sorry I'm late, guys. :)Anyway, here's some more word on these interesting early fighting games from SNK.Fatal Fury and Art of Fighting could have, by many accounts, just as easily pioneered the fighting genre as Street Fighter II did. According to some, they were in development prior to Street Fighter II's release, so all those SF2-like motions were actually taken from the original SF. This makes more sense on some less-flattering levels as well, as there's a distinct drop in quality from Street Fighter II to these first two SNK fighters which makes them more reminiscent of SF1. Specifically, these games were clearly built toward the single-player format. They may be the only fighting games in the post-SF2 era to actually feel like the Vs was the throw-in on the side! This is most evident in the fact that there's a clear imbalance in both games; player 1 has a much more narrow list of characters to choose from, with only two available in Art of Fighting, and three available in Fatal Fury! Meanwhile, player 2 can select pretty much the entire roster of fighters that player 1 will encounter in single-player. Both games had sequels that were far superior, so unless you're looking for a different kind of experience with the genre, it's probably a good idea to wait for those, or better yet, Samurai Shodown. Then we go to World Heroes, which was really the first decent game to emerge from all the Street Fighter II knockoffs of the early 90s. I have no competitive experience with it, so I'm not sure if there was any stupid BS that came along and wrecked it MK-style or what have you (god I hope not), but on the surface it's a fun, methodical fighting game that had a good sense of style and outstanding use of environmental interaction that we really didn't see much of outside this series until Dead or Alive 2 came along. If you only buy one game this week, make it this one. Not a lot of people knew about it, but it's definitely worth playing.
Hm. Upon further inspection, it appears to emulate the NeoGeo AES instead of the NeoGeo MVS, which I suppose makes sense as this is the Virtual Console and not the Virtual Arcade, but it also implies that games like Samurai Shodown and The King of Fighters '97 will be censored...
I hear that there is no save state either? :(

Metal Gear Solid: Gates Of Heaven

Chapter:1''Snake get down!'' The voice reverberated through his headset so suddenly it almost made him jump, but he was trained better than to do that.He dropped, flattening himself against the cold marble flooring, still he could feel the heat of the bullets as they whizzed overhead. Suddenly, with a push of his feet, he was up and running towards the large concrete pillar which was one of the few objects keeping this huge complex together. He estimated the amount of steps it would take him until he reached his only cover, 4, 3,2, 1. With a graceful dive he rolled behind the pillar, but not quick enough, one of the bullets had struck the concrete side and had sent hundreds of razor sharp shards flying through the cool night air, many of which made contact with his face. ''Where did these guys come from?'' he yelled back into his comm. link once he had wiped the slowly dripping blood out of his eyes and peaked out to see the 4 advancing enemies, only to be forced back into cover by a foray of bullets. ''I was told the site was clear when I made my air drop!'' ''We aren't too sure Snake they just appeared on the radar a few moments ago'' replied Colonel Roy Campbell. The Colonel has been with Foxhound since its creation in 1971 and was a very respected and honorable man, who has helped snake through many of his toughest missions; Snake doubted that he would fail him now.''Well good thing is that they aren't very well trained.'' Snake calmly replied as he observed one of the most primitive flanking maneuvers most commonly used during the Napoleonic Era. It has since been recognized as one of the most ingenious military moves in history, but has been taught in almost every combat training course since then. Snake carefully predicted their movement, and fired two precisely aimed shots with his .45 caliber sound suppressed handgun directly into enemy number one's chest.''One down three to go.'' he whispered to the Colonel as he repositioned himself back behind cover. With the quickness of a cheetah, taking chase along on of the long plains of Southern Africa, he reloaded and swept his gun around the corner of his concrete barrier, firing three times. One, shattering the giant fluorescent bulb directly above two of the hostiles. Bullet number two went screaming into the cranium right above the eye of the second of his squad of opposition, turning his brown facemask into a dripping pouch of blood and brain matter. Three went into the steel door from which the opposition had just recently appeared from. The sudden activity of such speed and precision stunned the third opponent leaving him open to one of snake's homegrown, custom pieces of metal pulverizing his neck as the bullet collided with his jugular.''Situation Green'' Snake calmly spoke into his microphone. Green indicating that the action that had just taken place had ended without any harm done to Foxhounds favorite agent.''Glad to hear it'' replied Sophie Grey, foxhounds expert field annalist and mission planner. ''Next you will need to head straight through the steel doors ahead of you and into the boiler room wh''''Hold on Sophie I think I just heard something.'' Cut in snake. Suddenly there was a cold feeling of metal on the back of snake's head.''Another sound and I blow your brains out.'' Whispered a cool deep voice into snakes ear. There was a kind of control and composure that was present his voice, a kind that comes with years of experience. ''Now give me your headset'''' I would expect more from the legendary Solid Snake, now you are coming with me''Metal Gear Solid: Gates Of Heaven
Whoa.....wait....did you write that? If you did, GREAT JOB! That was great.Metal Gear Solid: Gates Of Heaven

Which overused graphical effect do you hate the most?

Im not talking about games that use it, Im talking about games that use it excessively. Prince of Persia's Light Blooming almost blinded me, and Halo 3's bump mapping make everyone looked like they were made of clay.

But i would have to say light blooming, it comes up at the most ridiculous times, and they make it t oo obvious. At least Bump M apping makes g ames look better..

Light Bloom
Slow-Mo
Bump Mapping
Motion Blur

Which overused graphical effect do you hate the most?
Bloom. The only games I've come across that it ''works'' in is Shadow of the Colossus, ICO and Half Life 2 (and the official Source mods). In those games it is used either artistically really nicely or realistically enough to just make the lighting seem more realistic without blinding you.

The graphical effect I love the most is Anisotropic Filtering. I hate ''running blur'' on textures.
Which overused graphical effect do you hate the most?
Motion Blur and Bloom, in Oblivion, outside in the sun, looking at the ground, I couldnt even tell what I was looking at, it looked like a lump of glowing light, turned out to be a rock. Down with over used bloom.
I would definately have to say Bloom. It gets old after awhile.
I think this sums it up very well:
Definately bloom!!!!I love slow-mo/bullet time !!!!!!
You want a game with awful bloom? Two Worlds. If you went up into the snowy areas, it is extremely easy to get lost because there is nothing but white light coming out of your screen, and the small UI. I spent an hour wandering around trying to find a way out.
i hate bloom with a passion. its not cool. its disgusting. they need to stop using it. IMO one of the only games that have been able to use it effectively is GTA Vice City. like when you look into the sun in the game, it actually hurts your eyes because it's bright. that's realistic. one game that sucks at using it is heavenly sword. SINCE WHEN DOES WOOD SHINE WHEN IT'S DRY?
Bloom, it's like the lens-flare of modern games...however it's great for transition effects like in Half Life where you emerge from a dark area into a bright area and the camera adjusts to the light.

Like in real life... :o

I love how Valve is using HDR. So subtle compared to other developers who use it like they do a programming language.
Ugh... bloom really does suck, and so does overly shiney texturing. Although it's not really a graphics effect, I do get bothered by crappy ragdoll physics. I want to believe the enemy I just sent over the rooftop is a dead guy, not a crash test dummy.

I really don't like Valve's HDR. They use a hack to get around GPU limitations and the results reflect that. It never seems to get the exposure right, even for simple scenes.
SINCE WHEN DOES WOOD SHINE WHEN IT'S DRY?
When there's a lot of light shining on it, and the image is over-exposed? It happens in real-life, I promise. I can post a picture if you want.

Besides, are you really going to criticize a game about magical sword for not strictly adhering to reality? The designers certainly have the artistic license to make the lighting look as ''heavenly'' as the see fit. Honestly I thought their HDR and overall visual styyle is fantastic, and it all suits the source material pretty well.

Why so much hate on the bloom? Samus looks sexier brightened up a little in Metroid Prime 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl. :DKidding aside, I think it's how bloom is used. Sometimes devs just stick in there with no artistic direction in mind thinking it looks good. For example, games like Tron 2.0 shines from lighting effects and so does Ueda games. But others, like Medal of Honor for the Wii for example, has too much, IMO. I know it looks less granier than Call of Duty 3, but I think the blooming takes away the artistic sty-le of WWII settings, which is the gritty, realistic depiction of war. I think Medal of Honor will still be a good game, but the bloom doesn't work for me.Anyway, that's what I think about it.

I really hate bloom, and the cartoon that was posted a few up from this one about bloom is rather funny. If the devs used it as an artistic ground to branch something off of, then it may turn out quite alright, kinda like in Half-Life that was aforementioned. But, usually it's just a waste of time with the bloom and overly used and turns out to look like crap.Don't give the devs toys when they don't know what to do with them, they will just overuse them and in the wrong ways. Will someone please give them a guide to game making manual, they can sometimes use it.
I hate the focus blur on some games. Especially when it is done HORRIBLY.Example: Blitz: the League for the 360.
Blurry decals on otherwise pristine textures. I find it jarring.
Aside from bloom I really hate this one which I don't what is called but makes everything look too reflexive. This is overused in Need For Speed games, and also im some floors in God of War.

Sony Cuts PlayStation 3 Prices in Japan

Sony Cuts PlayStation 3 Prices in Japan
Tuesday October 9, 7:19 am ET
By Mari Yamaguchi, Associated Press Writer Sony to Cut Prices on PlayStation 3 in Japan, Sell New Model in Japan, Europe TOKYO (AP) -- Sony Corp.'s game unit said Tuesday it will cut the prices of its PlayStation 3 game consoles sold in Japan next week, and offer a new model in November. The moves are being made to meet growing demand and competition as the holiday season approaches, spokeswoman Sayoka Henmi said.Sony once dominated the industry with PlayStation 2, predecessor for the PS3, but it faces intense competition from consoles from Microsoft Corp. and Nintendo Co. Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. will cut the price of its model with 20 gigabytes of hard disk memory by about 10 percent to 44,980 yen ($384) from the current 49,980 yen ($427), effective Oct. 17, the company said in a statement. The price of its 60 gigabyte models will be reduced to about 54,980 yen ($470) from about 59,000 yen ($500). The company also said a new 40 gigabyte model will hit stores in Europe on Wednesday at 399 euros ($563) and in Japan on Nov. 11 at a suggested retail price of 39,980 yen ($342). Henmi said Sony has no immediate plans to introduce 40GB consoles in the U.S. Price cuts for the 20GB and 60GB consoles are only for Japan, but a starter pack sold in Europe that come with a 60GB game console, two controllers and a software will be reduced to 499 euros ($704) from 599 euros ($845), Henmi said. Sony has globally sold more than 5 million units of the PlayStation 3 since it went on sale late last year in Japan and the U.S., and in March in Europe. Microsoft has sold 11.6 million Xbox 360 machines in the last two years, and Nintendo has sold 9.3 million units of its popular Wii since late last year.Sony Cuts PlayStation 3 Prices in Japan
Oh. I hope this helps the sales over there. BTW, Engadget has pics of the new 40 gig ceramic white PS3, that just hit the japanese streets. I don't know about you, guys. But I really like this version. Too bad it's unlikely to reach our shores. And $342 sounds a lot better. Sony Cuts PlayStation 3 Prices in Japan
Oh... you guys beat me to this news by a long shot... I suck.
''Sony once dominated the industry...''Ouch! How many of thought we'd ever see that reported matter-of-factly, say 4 years ago.
Keep on cutting, finally Sony is doing something. I sure hope this wasted year they had with these crazy console prices was worth it, now they are extremely behind and at the price point they should have been to begin with.
I doubt it is going have much affect...Mainly because, the games still lack. While the Wii is comming out with guns loaded.
I doubt it is going have much affect...Mainly because, the games still lack. While the Wii is comming out with guns loaded.
I wish people would stop saying that and actually look at what is coming out.  The PS3 is getting all of the third party games that the 360 is, and they are getting Folklore, Ratchet, Eye of Judgment, Uncharted, GT5: Prologue, Wipeout HD, Everyday Shooter, and Haze all by the end of November... and UT3 sometime in the near future as well.  In addition to that the games that have been released still exist, Resistance, Motorstorm, Heavenly Sword, Tekken 5: DR, Warhawk, and Ridge Racer 7 are all good games.

I'm not attacking you, it is just that the drought is over.  I realize that I sound like a big old fanboy idiot right now, but I just wonder how many games will be enough before people stop saying the PS3 'doesn't have any games'.
I'd definately be willing to pick up a PS3 with a 40GB HDD priced at around $400 so the sooner they can bring that to the North American market the better. I'd really like to pick up Ridge Racer 7, Resistance, Tekken 5: DR, and Ninja Gaiden Sigma right off the bat. Uncharted and Ratchet look likethey will bereally good games and I wouldn't mind at least renting Heavenly Sword and giving that game a spin.I can't say I'm all that interested in getting a white PS3 though since black goes better with the other equipment in my entertainment center.
Keep on cutting, finally Sony is doing something. I sure hope this wasted year they had with these crazy console prices was worth it, now they are extremely behind and at the price point they should have been to begin with.
I really don't know how much this is going to help them in Japan (save for the new color, which the Japanese seem to go nuts over). I don't know that it's really a price issue over there, and even if it is, they've got a long ways to go (even from this cut) to get the price competitive with the Wii. A price drop is always a good thing, but I think the problem in Japan is that no one really knows what the Japanese buyer is thinking. Are they buying the Wii because of how quirky and different it is? Are they buying it because it's cheap? Are they buying it because it reminds them of a home version of the DS? No one really knows. There's the very real possibility that this will provide a bit of temporary buoyancy to the numbers, but nothing long-term. The problem also is that there aren't any games coming for the system in Japan to go along with the drop. I think this helps them set the table up for a spring MGS4 release, and I'm sure this was the result of a lot of publisher heat on Sony. I can only imagine the meetings between Konami reps and Sony reps discussing how MGS4 was going to fare with only a million units moved in a year. And I'm sure the talks with Square regarding FFXIII weren't all that different. I'm sure that publishers have watched mainstay million-selling franchises from the PS2 era sell underhwelmingly (Minna no Golf5, VF 5) inJapan and it's caused them to hit the panic button. I think this was the better decision from the two options: Lose exclusives (what little there are) or bleed more money. Bleeding is better. This is, quite literally, do or die time for Sony globally. I can't remember any system ever losing two holiday seasons before going on to lead the market.
White PS3 looks very nice.

• Why are games that have muiltple series based off their preducssors?

I just wanted to know. I haven't played all the series of a game so when I get one game out of three series I always hear the first was better. Shouldn't games be based on that single game rather than what came out before it?Why are games that have muiltple series based off their preducssors?
What do you mean? Are you talking about different series in the same universe, like Metal Gear/Metal Gear Solid or Metroid/Metroid Prime? Why are games that have muiltple series based off their preducssors?
Yes.

MY video game rant for today. Read, opinions are great

i have to say the one thing on my mind regarding my opinion on either buying a multiplat game on the ps3 or on the 360 is the achievements. I never thought i was going to fall under this achivment whore thing but i hate my friends giving me crap over having a low ass gamer score. i blame that on work, and my sense of thinking that achievements are not really important. I recently finished the darkness, rainbow six vegas, and graw 2, But all on my ps3. And now that i realize i would of gottent a crap load of achievements if i would of played these games on the xbox 360. So now im going to go out and rent these games for my 360 just for the achievement points. i dont consider my self a fanboy of any console i have all three consolesand i like the 3 consoles i am just not afraid of giving my opinion on each consoles advantages, but also their flaws.IN My opinion, The Sony Ps3 is a great and powerful console with potential to be evenGreater than it already is, But small things are keeping it from being better than its current status, first of all now when im out shopping for a new game, if its multiplat i always tend to go for the 360 just for the achivements, a good example would be when devil may cry 4 comes out, im most likley going to purchase it for the 360 even though the past three versions of the game i have played them on the ps2. It just that devil may cry3was very challengin to me and i busted my ass on that game that now if im going to do the same thing with 4 i want something to show for it. Hopefully ps3 does something about this and enables an achievement like feature since it is not really a very complicated task. If sony fixes this and enables a feature like this i think it will really help its sales. The Xbox 360 is a great console great game library even though some may think its a fps bank, I think it has something for everyone on there, ''this is including xbox live arcade titles'' I like my 360 Ive been playing halo 3 lately and have enjoyed every minute of it. But i will not deny that i have been a victim ot the dreaded harware failure known as the dreaded three red lights. It happend to me about a month before the halo 3 release. My first 360 lasted me for almost 2 years i think i about december 05, so i consider it a launch console. I went through the replacement process and ive been i guess satisfied the new one i got is working. so i guess its all good. One of my friends told me once just because you can pack three processors in a box does not mean that you should. and i think that makes somewhat of sense. But overall i think the 360 will recover from its flaws and be a great contender to be the winnerin this somewhat never ending next gen war.The Nintendo Wii Is also a very fun console not as powerfulor how can we say gurthy as the other two console but still very fun. I think nintendo is doing a great thing and trying to get the casual person to be able to relate to a video game. Ilike my Wii its fun. Nothing beats Post Drunk Bowling, or wario ware thats always fun. for some reason the ''hey do you want to come to my room and play with my Wii Never Fails''. When instructing it to a half drunk female who is hanging at your apartment with your female roomate. LoL The Wii is what it was meant to be Fun,and accesible to anybody who knows how to use a televison remote. I once got my 82 year old grampa to duke it out in a session of Wii Sports Boxing, and that was just cool. He actually knew what to do.I do think that nintendo has to fix the whole online friend code thing cuz its not as accessibleas the competionsonline services when it comes to friends and stuff i think a name is better thana bunch of numbers.I think The wiihas acomplished what it wasmeant to be. Just and overall Fun console that will can be enjoyed by everyone. And i guess thats my rant. thanks.

Japan Gets White PS3 Nov. 11th

I am officially jealous, Japan is getting a ceramic white 40GB PS3 for 39,980 yen with the Dual Shock 3 controller on the 11th:

looks sweetso i'm assuming there are no restrictions on which controllers work with which consoles...meaning the dualschock 3 in japan will work with the NA ps3? if the dualshock 3 is hitting NA next spring, i'd definitely think about importing the controller here too...and if the 40gb console gets the $400 pricepoint here too if it releases in november, i'd have to think long and hard about finally picking up a ps3...Japan Gets White PS3 Nov. 11th
I wanted a silver one :( both black and white catches stains.
I don't know if white really works for the PS3. It's perfect for the Wii, but it just looks a little strange on the PS3. If anything it looks more like the George Foreman Grill now than it ever has before.
A silver one would be nice. It would match my PSP.@Prodigy Basic- As far as anyone knows the controllers aren't region protected, and most every game coming out from now on has rumble ready to go... so I think I'm going to import. I really want SCEA to make their announcement about the 40GB in America. It should be $399 when it comes out, and the rumors are that it will be in stores Nov. 2nd, but only Sony knows for sure, and they aren't talking just yet.
I was looking at my PS3 the other day wondering what other color would work for it, and I dismissed white.I think Ferrari Red would be what I would hold out for for my second PS3.Or Pink, to match my Japanese PS2.

You could just import it from Japan, all the games are region free, and we share the same Blu-Ray region with Japan... I think it might be a while before we see different color variations in the states, we were the last to get them with the PS2 and PSP.

• Your first impression on Splinter Cell 5?

For those of you that have already checked out the trailer and previews for the new Splinter Cell: Conviction, what is your first impression? It sure promises a big change of both structure and pace from the series standards. Maybe it's just me, but at a first glance it made me think of Shen Mue. But I might just be crazy.Your first impression on Splinter Cell 5?
What the hell have they done to Splinter Cell? It's like resident evil 4 all over again(not that it was bad)Your first impression on Splinter Cell 5?
This doesn't even look like a Splinter Cell game anymore. They should just call it Conviction or something because from what I see, Sam Fisher is more of a man on the run then a stealthy government agent and that was what Splinter Cell was all about.
Yeah, it doesn't look like SC anymore: it looks like a free roaming game where you have to survive, chased by everybody (that's why it kinda reminded me of Shen Mue). At least I think so: Fisher will supposedly be wanted by the NSA for what happened in the end of SC: DA (no spoilers).
i think ubisoft were just showing off some of the action scenes. i guess a trailer of sam in a crawl space or climbing a ladder would be pretty dull
Looked kind of different to the old Splinter Cell we've grown used to. Maybe Ubisoft thought it was time for a change? Who knows. It has caught my interest though; the last Splinter Cell installment I sort of just read about and went ''yeah, ok'' but this one actually made me sit up and think, hmm, a change to the gameplay? Interesting...
I bought 4, I aint buying 5 unless it's going cheap a couple of years down the road.
the game looks great
[This message was deleted at the request of the original poster]
It sure looks great. Splinter Cell always does. There will no doubt be our beloved sneaking (else it might even be renamed 'Splinter Quake'), but the fight scenes made me think of Virtua Fighter, instead of the usual one-hit-ko of the other games. Dynamic environment also looks amazing, can't wait to flip tables over.A question for all of you: do you think Sam will still have the OCP goggles, after what happened in SC DA?

I don't think he will. From what I understand you will have to use wit over gadgets in this game.
Splinter Cell 5??????..........Not my type.
Holy crap! Fisher is an ass-kicking hobo now! :shock:It just looks like a beat-em-up action game with Sam Fisher's beardy face on it. Who knows, it might be the change that's needed, as I have no interest in picking up the next SC if it remains like the others. I felt like the peak in the series was at Chaos Theory, and my interest has really begun to diminish. If they do things right, I may end up picking this one up.I bet he still has Lamber yelling in his ear :P
Since the OCP goggles are the series logo, I think he won't have the OCP and SC-20K for the first half of the game only, then I presume he'll prove his innocence or something like that, and get his gear back.Yes, Chaos Theory was the peak of the series, Double Agent was kind of a step back, though it rocked.I really hope Lambert will still play a key role in the story (which will probably be deeper).
My first impressions? ''I dont like Splinter Cell, why am I watching this?''
My first impressions? ''I dont like Splinter Cell, why am I watching this?''
Maybe it's because you are changing your mind about the game.Great signature by the way. You have my respect.
It looks like a pretty cool game, but there is nothing that resembles any of the old Splinter Cell games. So it's up in the air for me.
Here's my thoughts. Each Splinter Cell made a significant improvement on the gameplay and stealth mechanics. By Chaos theory, the stealth was so in depth, that it featured light/darkness, sound, just about everything. And then SC4 took away all those meters, and somehow still keeps the depth of the stealth mechanics. In my opinion, SC4 has perfected the modern stealth game. So what are they to do next? Rehash it again? Instead, they're completely changing the gameplay, and to me it looks like it's just what the series needs to move on after Double Agent. From watching the interview and reading about it, I'm very hyped about this game.
Meh, I dont know. The whole terrorism in the middle of a busy park or cafe just doesnt sound realistic to me.
Damned if you do, damned if you don't. If Ubi Soft had made yet another stealth game in the vein of the previous SC games people would be complaining about it being ''more of the same.'' So instead we have Ubi Soft taking some risks and trying to offer up something completely different and unique and the only responses most gamers can musterare complaints that it looks too different. From the limited footage I've seen the game looks very interesting. Given the pedigree of the developers behind this game, I have faith it will be something prettygreat.

Black people in games

I never really though about this actually, but there is seriously a small amount of games with black playable characters, it's not rascist but still, when do you guys think there will be a breakthrough black playable character, meaning that they aren't a gang member, or a basketball player, or a voodoo guy(and if there is, than post)Black people in games
superheroe cop agent in crackdown was black.everyones favourite, Cole Trainand...Jax?Black people in games
Reality is that black people are a minority in America and Europe, so it is not reasonable to expect to see a lot of main characters being a certain minority. Especially when taking into consideration that the game industry is notorious for being comprised mainly of young white men. If the game industry keeps exploring new themes (particularly real-world themes like Rockstar does), we will surely see more diversity in that area.
Barret Wallace from FF VII is black, and he's kind-of a playable character.
The Redguard was arguably one of the better classes in Oblivion and Morrowind. Most fighting games these days feature at least one black character that isn't stereotypical as well.
We have already had a break through black playable character - Augustus the ''Cole'' train.
Crackdown guy was black, Cole train was black, axle from Twisted Metal was black, 90% of football players in Madden are black lol
Barret Wallace from FF VII is black, and he's kind-of a playable character.
Wasn't he the guy with a gun for one of his arms? Excluding sports games I can't think of anything prior to FF7 that had a black playable character.

But at the same time, do you realize how completely under-represented black people are in literature? It is insane.
I think in reality minorities are the majority in America. It's just that maybe like someone said earlier that the game industry is dominated by white males and asian males. So most of the characters reflect that i guess. Its the whole people wanting to put themselves in games thing. It'd be interesting to see more diverse characters in games.

Reality is that black people are a minority in America and Europe, so it is not reasonable to expect to see a lot of main characters being a certain minority. But at the same time, do you realize how completely under-represented black people are in literature? It is insane.
It shouldn't, and I'm glad you pointed that out. People go on and on about how games and movies and literature are escapism, and in general this is true. Playing as a hedgehog, alien or robot is something we do in games and think nothing of. But the minute you use a race, other than white, as a main character, people say they can't relate????!!!! Suddenly it becomes a black thing and people make it an issue. The 'minority' thing is a copout. I personally would like to hear game designers directly say WHY they don't cast the main character in their game as black. Mass Effect (as well as previous games like KOTOR) prove that it shouldn't make any different what race the character is.
Yea, its a bit odd, but then again, a large majority of video game characters aren't even human. But its hard to blame this on American racism when most games are developed in Japan. Anyone know the problem's source? All I know is that the only non-gangster black character in video games I can remember was Barret, and he swore like hell.
if you do co-op in Resistance:Fall of Man, the 2nd player will be black
I know there's one, but I can think of him...Well, if s/he were breakthrough-worthy, I'd already have thought of them, right?Besides the 'mentioned, I haven't had any come to mind that are of that stature.Strange, but understanable when I think of the state of people's affairs throughout earth.

If so, why?Do you agree when they say 'Half-Life 2' is one of the greatest FPS's ever?
I'm not sure that it's fair to say that HL2 is one of the greatest FPS's ever, though it certainly stands head and shoulders over most FPS's out there. It certainly deserves consideration for such an honor based on it's stunning graphics and the awesome weapons (gravity gun FTW!), but the gameplay itself is not as innovative as such groundbreaking FPS's like the original Half Life or Doom. Do you agree when they say 'Half-Life 2' is one of the greatest FPS's ever?
Hell ya. Amazing graphics. Stellar story, and potentially the best story in an FPS in it's time. Brilliant sound quality. Best AI of it's time. By far the best Mod support of it's time. One of the first games to implement such a vastly complicated physics system. Oh, and CSS, the sequal to one of the best online games of all time, came packaged with it.
EVER? No. In HISTORY? Maybe....It's pointless to make these claims when something will trump it in the future. Half Life 2 is a great game but doesn't deserve to be held aloft like some idol for worship.
No. Aside from the gravity gun, pretty much everything it does has been done in previous games. That being said, it does not detract from it being a stellar experience (especially Episode 1). The combat is quite linear and quite derivative of many previous titles (as any sequel should be). The guns themselves are very underwhelming and bland. The presentation and atmosphere however are quite superb. Especially in places such as Ravenholm, on the road outside of City 17 and in the tunnels and sewers under City 17 (in Episode 1).

The game itself, as a game, is not that great, you can easily find a similar FPS experience anywhere else nowadays. However, its presentation and the the overall experience of it all are excellent. As a FPS, it is pretty dull... as a game on the whole, it is superb.
It is a really good fps, but I think my favorite fps of all time is Call of Duty/Call of Duty 2. Man I love those games (huge fan of WWII/games revolving around it).
It's not even as good as Half-Life 1.However, Half-Life 1 was so amazing that's not exactly a bad thing.
I think it is, it actually managed to stay fresh and interesting for nearly 20 hours of gameplay. It had the excellent pacing of RE4, every area had something different going on.
For me, the game is not even close to being called the greatest FPS ever. The gameplay is pretty linear and I didn't find the storyline as good than a lot of ppl of this board believes. The lack of character interactions and development lead me not to care about most of the characters in the game. I like the sorroundings and the atmosphere, but it not it hasn't been done before. I have always found Deus Ex to be a more compelling game overall than Half-Life.
I think as a FPS, it's great and one of the best. But claiming Half-Life 2 as the best game ever is like saying which NBA basketball player is the greatest. Different positions, height, era, can all have a factor. But of course we all know that Michael Jordan is the greatest ever just like Zelda Ocarina of Time is the greatest game ever. :P
HL2 is a good game with great sound, graphics and storyline but it lacked action and there seemed to be a lot of hey look at our new engine isn't it great moments. The best FPS no but it is on the list of great games.
It磗 the only FPS I磛e ever put away because I was bored. No Storyline, almost no Action, much walking senseless around...nice Graphics and Sound are not making up for that.I think it was only hyped because of the first and, like Halo 2,just because PC gamers needed a good reason to upgrade their PCs and nothing better was coming out.Maybe I change my mind of I get the Orange Box,but after the first 6h without anything that makes the game gameplay-wise better then any other FPS...I mean everyone was talking about the great Storyline and style of Storytelling, but where was it?I was walking around in BIG areas, some people telling ''Hey Mr Freeman,I磛e heard of you,go there and there''you walked (or driven a boat) through a area, shot a handfull of enemys, sometimes a physics-show off (couldn磘 be called puzzles, but nice made),just to do the same the next 2h...without anything exactly happening.Short after Ravenholm I stopped, because the game just didn磘 give me any reason to play on.After a friend finished it and told me the game whould get any better (HL1 is his number 1 FPS of all time)I stopped.What磗 so good about this game?I just don磘 get it...I play the 1st right now,in order to find a sense.
Half-life 2 is a very good shooter but not the best ever like it's hyped to be. There are plenty of less popular shooters that are on par with it or close to being on par. It would depend on your definition of one of the best but this is a list of FPS I feel were better for their time then HL2. Half-life, Doom, Undying, Deus Ex, NOLF 1 %26 2, Goldeneye, Halo, System Shock 2, UT and Quake 3. It wouldn't make my top 10 but obviously it would be in the top 10 of many gamers and the mod support it received because of this greatly improved the retail product. The same was true of the original but it would have been in my top 10 regardless.
For me personally, Half-Life 2 is one of the greatest games I've ever played. Superb graphics and sound, started off the physics revolution, stellar and varied level design, fantastic action sequences, solid AI, unparalleled mod scene...but far more importantly, Half-Life 2 transcends being a mere ''game''. It is an experience like no other with a very interesting, complex storyline, interactive/indirect storytelling, compelling characters, and an incredible atmosphere. From the very first few seconds of gameplay, I knew I was in for something special. You can feel the misery of the people surrounding you and you fervently want to join in the revolt. There is something distinctly real and human about Half-Life 2 despite the fact that you're fighting off an alien invasion.
One of the greatest FPS games ever?.....Absolutely! (people, his thread title is asking if it's one of the greatest FPS every, not the greatest FPS ever) In terms of the genre overall, I still think System Shock 2 and Deus Ex were the height of the genre....however...those are also considered more FPS-hybrid games then straightforward FPS, so for me personally, in terms of a straightforward single player FPS (as in a non-hybrid), I would say HL2 is still the best Single Player FPS out on the market.Besides the facts that HL2 is a pretty lengthy single player FPS that is longer then most FPS games today, the story and settings being interesting, and the gameplay mechanics feeling right.....here is pretty much some other reasons that make HL2 such a top game in it's genre....1) It's a Sequel that goes for Complete Change yet clearly remains connected to the Original game both in content and feel - Most sequels to other FPS games usually take place in the same type of locations as the original and pretty much turn into little more then more of the same. HL2 is different. HL2 takes place in a completely different setting with completely different enemies and with a completely different theme....yet it distinctly remains a HL game, that is quite an accomplishment. Valve could have easily made HL2 take place in another secret government facility with another alien outbreak with the same aliens....but instead they choose to break the mold. Instead of the government facility setting of the first HL with a kind of Alien incursion type of story, HL2 takes place in a European city and has a more Orwellian feel to the background of the story....yet it's done in a way that not only works, but also makes sense in connecting to the original HL.2 ) The Setting of HL2 Breaks Away from typical FPS Cliches yet still provides just as great a backdrop for the Action - There are countless shooters where you play as some marine soldier and weird looking Aliens are coming in their advanced spaceships and Earth armies are battling it out full scale with the Alien invasion........HL2 does away with that cliche. In HL2 the Aliens are already here, they've won, and they've set up an oppressive government...one that presents itself as peaceful and in the human's best interest, when it clearly isn't. Where so many other FPS games have you as the lone-one-man-army super marine fighting a vast army of aliens/demons/cyborgs etc......HL2 presents you more as the Saboteur of an oppressive state and as a key component in a greater resistance force rather then a one man super army.So many Sci-Fi FPS games use a Independence Day or War of the Worlds type theme......but how many use Orwellian theme out of something like 1984?3) The Story and Characters are Interesting and unfold through the perspective of the Player - There are no long cutscenes in HL2....HL2 doesn't need them. Everything unfolds through the perspective of the player in which the player is always playing HL2. Despite not having cutscenes, HL2 still manages to have some of the most interesting NPC characters in an FPS like Alyx, Barney, The G-man, Dr. Kleiner, Dr. Breen, etc. who express more personality and emotion during the gameplay itself then most FPS games do through dedicated cutscenes.4) The Gravity Gun Changes the Game to give it a both a Uniqueness and Fun Factor beyond other FPS Games without feeling gimicky - The gravity gun is probably the only weapon in an FPS that also acts as a tool that greatly effects the gameplay and is even needed to progress. There are two ways in which the Gravity gun is important. First, it was the first weapon I'm aware of in an FPS game that allows you to manipulate multiple objects in the environment, this greatly effected the gameplay in that it allowed for environmental puzzles that added a new dynamic that went beyond the gameplay being about just shooting bad guys. Second, It's a weapon where the ammo is practically anything you want it to be....this allows the player to get creative with how they want to use the gravity gun as both a weapon and a tool. But most of all, the Gravity Gun is fun to use...the game certainly provides you with a variety of other weapons and tools, but I still kept coming back to the Gravity Gun cause it was enjoyable. 5) It was Overall the Best Looking Game for it's time and even into today, yet was highly scalable for a variety of players - The fact that 3 YEARS later the visuals in HL2 manage to stack up with ''next-gen'' games says something. HL2 had large environments and probably the best character design and water effects for the time, even today those two things have held up quite well. But even in 2004, plenty of people were able to run HL2 fine on a variety of hardware.6) The HL2 Package has allowed for Unlimited Expansion through both Usermade and Official Content beyond most titles - Mods like Garry's Mod, Dystopia, and countless others have given the package of HL2 a longevity beyond any other game.....not to mention all the usermade maps, mods, skins, and mods for games like CS:S.

Finally, on top of all that Valve themselves have provided a wealth of FREE content and continuous updates such as numerous free maps, character models, and updates for CS:S, Lost Coast which was a free single player level for HL2, and HL2: Deathmatch......aside from maybe Epic on PC, how many other developers can claim they provided as much free official content and continuous support for their game?
Yes, it is clearly one of the best single player experiences around in the fps genre. That being said, games are a hard thing to make a 'best of' list, because they are always changing, and evolving into something better. You wonder if you look at it as it is now, or has it was when it came out. It's still up there, even though it came out a few years ago.I can't wait to re-live the experience (and play episode 1 and 2, which I never have) tommorow, when I pick up the Orange Box.
Hell ya. Amazing graphics. Stellar story, and potentially the best story in an FPS in it's time. Brilliant sound quality. Best AI of it's time. Oh, and CSS, the sequal to one of the best online games of all time, came packaged with it.
Hmm, I think you're describing the first game, not the second. HL2 was amazing ofc, and one of the best titles in the genre, but IMO the actual fighting left a bit to be desired. The AI in the first game was nothing short of amazing, but in the second game there wasn't much to make it stand out in this department. Storytelling was indeed amazing, and the atmosphere is still unsurpassed IMO.
HL2 is one of the greatest games I ever played, period. From its crushingly oppresive atmosphere, to its gorgeous graphics and excellent storytelling it is without debate one of the best in its genre. For ME personally FEAR was a better title, but HL2 is a close second.

I remember playing this for the first time last year and being completly blown away.
For ME personally FEAR was a better title, but HL2 is a close second.
*Throws up in the corner* Sorry I had to :P
It's my personal favourite FPS, so yeah I have no objection to calling it ''one of the best...'' at all.

Any underwater or space exploration console games?

Does anyone know of any underwater or space exploration games for consoles? I'm hoping to get hold of Aquanaut's Holiday for PS1, but I imagine that with the more powerful PS2 or Xbox, or even with the Xbox 360 (I've got no PS3) the simulation of the oceans or of deep space could be really impressive.Any underwater or space exploration console games?
There is a great one coming out for the Wii called (I think) endless ocean which does look like video game opium!! I must say I'm looking forward to it .. for some reason :)

All that swiming around with a trace like Nin sound track over the top of it ..... blissAny underwater or space exploration console games?

If you got an at least medicore PC,take a look at Aquanox II (I think it was the title).I only played it a bit but it seemed nice.I can remember a ood one on console.
Mass Effect will be big in space exploration.
I just now checked out endless ocean here on gamespot. It looks pretty great! Although I don't have a Wii. So its something I won't have to fret about buying unless it comes out on a different system.
http://www.gametrailers.com/player/25154.html Spread the love. Looks great Any chance to push Endless Ocean (Wii) 'is console psychotherapy, and it's totally brilliant'
Coll, thanks for that, didn't expect a big response. I won't be getting a Wii anytime soon - too much jumping around for me - so hopefully they will bring that PS3 one out for the 360...
I believe that PS3 one is being done by the afrika devs which are sony 1st party so if you want underwater exploration, you may need a new console.
The PS3 game is named Aqua Vita. It is being developed by Artdink, who last I heard was independent, though it is being published in the US by SCEA who also published two of Artdink's older games, Carnage Heart and Tail of the Sun.
definitely mass effect for space exploration fun.
There were two underwater exploration games (prequels to the upcoming Endless Ocean on Wii) on the PS2:

Everblue and Everblue 2

After about 2 hours with that game, it's enough to make me swear off anything that Artdink ever does again.
Aqua for PS3 looks very nice. Wonder what it's all about?...
There were two underwater exploration games (prequels to the upcoming Endless Ocean on Wii) on the PS2: Everblue and Everblue 2
Don't reccomend those, they were awful.
Oh I dunno, I was just looking at Everblue 2 (images, videos, gamespot review, a reader review and critic reviews) and I like the look of it. Ok some people don't like it but then you have to wonder if those reviewers are shoot-em-up freaks :P
X3: Reunion if your computer can run it. Technically it was going to come out for Xbox, but they cut that.

It sounds similar to Carnage Heart in that the setup is unique and the pacing is slow. In Carnage Heart one spends hours building a programming mechs and a couple minutes seeing if all of your hard work pays off in which your team of three robots/planes either takes apart the enemy or if a programming error(s) results in stupid behaviour that gets them killed. However,Tail is sufficiently different that I won't risk 30 bucks on it, though if it ever pops up as a six dollar PSN download, I am there.

Train with Pro-Gamers on XFX Bus Tour

What do you think about training with Pro-Gamers? Those who qualified are competing for spots on the XFX Team Bus Tour. Those who are chosen get to Train with Pros %26 Compete against Pros on the XFXTeam Bus Tour. I wonder if Gamespot will have a similar opportunity to train with pro-gamers. That would be awesome!!! Last Day to Vote on Who Goes on the XFXTeam Tour is 10/10. http://www.xfxteam.com/profiles/100763/ VOTE for my favorite: Mauisnake http://www.xfxteam.com/profiles/100763/Train with Pro-Gamers on XFX Bus Tour
That video of him playing CSS was insane! He is the ultimate sniper if that was skill and not just luck...I'd be pissed if I was the guy he shot, just wouldn't want to be on the opposite team as him :lol:Train with Pro-Gamers on XFX Bus Tour
Awesome. I always liked the idea of being pro at a PC game, but I think I'll focus on Halo. Playing with Pros on any game calls for hella fun.

Feelings of the Wii line-up from launch to present. What do you think?

After paying $250 and searching everywhere to find the system, playing Zelda, you get bored so you look at the games being announced for it. Well behold here they are. WTF is this? I just spent my hard earn money for 3 ports (one that's just pathetic) and a Sonic game? I mean yes SSX was love it or hate it and Sonic was decent, but seriously this is it?Okay these can't be ALL the games coming out for the system let me see more. WTF is this? Is this a gaming system or some Tiger Electronics crud a brought at Toy's R' US. I mean seirously these games aren't even full games, but mini-games and....I don't even know what Boogie is but it's probably as good as the name. Seriously if every system had a line-up like this it would cause a second apocalypse....no no no scratch that that's completely ridiculous, the horsemen would be too scared of a place where crap like this is allowed release. A few months later. Finally after all those garbage games something good comes out. Beats the game .*Looks at third party line-up* WTF I own all these games. I mean sure they may be slightly better then the games that came before, but I'm still getting the same damn game I have already.Hold on what's this? I don't know what's more shocking, the fact that a sequel has finally been made or that there is a game coming out for this PoS machine that I'd actually pay for and isn't made by Nintendo.Whatever this seriously sucks there are like barely any good no screw that decent games for this system. Hmm what's this.....Virtual Console......hmm there's Bonk....Sonic.......MARIO! HELL YEAH!One Month later.*Looks at third party line-up* Okay well finally we're starting to see some real progress.....but that isn't really saying anything since the line up was crap before. Okay well it's great to see that I'm not getting the same exact damn game over again with tweaked controls, though techinically Rygar is sorta a remake and Resident Evil 4 is a port, but it's Resident Evil 4 so who cares.Soul Caliber Legends, seriosuly I would much prefer Soul Caliber 4 instead of this spin-off garbage, I can't believe they turned Umbrella Chronicles into a damn light gun game.....well judging from the games that sell on this thing the old one would've floped too bad Resident Evil 4 port will probably do the same, anyway, Opoona looks like if the Teletubbies and the hookers from my red light district got together, had kids and dropped them off on a planet in outer space created by Kurt Russells phantasic dreams. Seriously the line-ups looking a BETTER but that really isn't saying much is it.Wait what's this? Wow a puzzle/adventure game that utilizes the Wii's controls? Count me in. *looks on the internet*Hmm....this so called ''Project O'' game looks interesting.Congratulations Wii you know have the amount of games coming out for the system not made by Nintendo up to 3! Now what am I going to play? *Sigh* More Virtual Console games it is.A few months later...after E3 Geezus what happened, now THIS is what I'm talking about. Glad to see me rebuying Trauma Center paid off, I'm getting not only a sequel to an awesome game but an exclusive as well, Symphonia 2 is also coming and I'm excited for it, and Nitrobike actually looks like a redeemer for Ubish-I mean soft.Well I guess I'll keep playing the VC. *Sigh*Few months laterYES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Beats game, currently present day.*Looks at third party line-up* The spritual sequel to Odin Sphere? A sequel to Samba de' Amigo? A ground up Fatal Frame?Project O I- I mean King's Story actually looks innovative and awesome? With all of them built ground up for the system. These games look........awesome.Not only that but announcements of Treasure and other awesome developers working with the system?Well I never thought I'd say this but......I'm starting be glad I brought this thing. So do you agree with me? If not what are your feelings of it's progress?Feelings of the Wii line-up from launch to present. What do you think?
Nice post.My opinion is that the line up started out weak, and is still presently weak. But there are a large number of games coming out within the next year that have got me excited. The future is just brighter and brighter for the Wii.My Wii's still collecting dust, but it looks like that's gonna be changing soon. Feelings of the Wii line-up from launch to present. What do you think?
I guess you've been camping out in my mind. That excellent post explains my evolution of thought on the Wii exactly. Got one at launch, it sat unused forever and now I consider it an essential possesion. Trauma Center and RE4 cemented that in place.Would I want it to be my only system? No, but it is an essential part of a healty console player's diet.
[This message was deleted at the request of a moderator or administrator]
All I've bought so far is Metroid 3 and Twilight Princess.I'll play these while I wait for Galaxy. And then Brawl and Mario Kart will keep me busy while I wait for something else.If nothing else comes those 2 should keep me busy easily online.

I agree with both you and the topic creator, I was pretty pissed by the crappy games up until recently, I also wouldnt want this to be my ownly system- but every month I get more and more proud to be a Wii owner. So far I have RE4, SPM, Zelda, Trauma Center and Metroid Prime 3 which are all fantastic games that I highly reccomend. Upcoming we are getting Mario Galaxy, Smash Brothers, Fire Emblem, Manhunt 2...!! Good stuff Wii :)

Oh and the virtual console is completly awesome.
I still remember when the line-up looked so piss poor that people actually thought that it was going to ''kill'' quality gaming.
Right now the quality of games I have on the Wii is insane. Sure they maybe ports of GC games but I still have two of my all time favorite games Zelda: TP and RE4. Just recently MP3 joined my favorites of all time list and I have a feeling Galaxy will be up there as well. Super Paper Mario was great, Sonic was good, TC is good as well, Elebits is a whole lot of fun, those are the games I have played. With Mario Galaxy and Smash hitting, the system is getting two more GOTY contenders. Plus there is great fan service games like RE: UC and Nights 2 hitting, hopefully they turn out good. Zack and Wiki looks great, FE is going to be awesome, Mario Kart should be terrific as well, so there is plenty more on the way. Plus the VC is the greatest thing ever put on a game console. My only real issue is with what Nintendo will be doing beyond this holiday season, they just used up all their big franchises. Other than that I am very pleased with the Wii.
Metroid Prime 3: Corruption made it all worth it. Umbrella Chronicles, No More Heroes, Oboro Muramasa Youtouden and Fatal Frame IV are just icing on the cake.
There's also the Virtual Console.Seriously ''Sin %26 Punishment'' came out of nowhere. I'm having more fun with that game then the majority of games I've played in the past couple years. As for me I'm very excited about Oboruo Muramasa Youtoden. I know some people didn't like it but Odin Sphere is one of my favorite games of all-time and the fact that spritual sequel is coming out for it is awesome!Second would be Zack and Wiki, it's pure hardcore adventure gaming 101.Third would be No More Heroes, I could've mentioned it in my OP but I wanted it to seem more how do I saw ''hopeless'' in the begining. :P
Yah the line up for the sophmore year of the Wii is looking pretty sweet! I guess I am a patient guy who doesn't expect amazing great games to come out for the Wii in the first year and I am stoked the Wii is finally going to deliver in actually software besides the VC which is what I have been playing after I beat MP3 and TP. Zack and Wiki on October 23rd then Fire Emblem on November 5th. Once that hits the games will keep rolling in for the next2-3 years of awesome gaming!
The early days of a console are always a little rough around the edges but after a while you see some high quality stuff. I can't wait to play Zack and Wiki. Easily a sleeper hit for the wii. Mario Galaxy will be huge as well.
Well, I seem to be the party-pooper here.In regards to the Wii, I wouldn't recommend it to anyone except for the most die-hard Nintendo fans. Frankly, the games that are announced for the system just don't look satisfying to me. In fact, they actually look dated to me- not just graphically, but in design. I suppose a better way to put it would be this: when you look at the upcoming season of PS3/PC/360 games, a lot of those games seem like massive steps in terms of interactivity and immersion. The Wii, due to its power, just couldn't do it ever. So it has motion sensing controls to fall back on.....but I haven't seen or played a game that makes dual-analog feel backwards and dated. Until I see those kinds of games coming out, I'm not going to be excited for very much on the Wii.
At first I thought your post was trolling, but after reading it, you almost convinced me to buy a Wii right now at my 24hr Wal-Mart! Of course they have none in stock. :PBut good post! I think you're right that the Wii is getting quality games now. It reminds me very much like the way the DS started out. And to be honest, comparing the DS with the PSP, reminds me very much like the Wii and the PS3's path. Very similar. The Wii library is essentially the DS's big brother. They're very similar, and that's a good sign. I love my DS and the games so I bet I'll love the Wii as well. I'll get one soon, maybe not this year but next year...Smash Bros. has been tempting big time to finally pick the Wii up.
Great post, I think given the time it's had the Wii is doing alright in the games department. By '08 the Wii will have plenty of great games.
Great post, I think you were a little harsh in some cases, games like warioware and Elebits deserve recognition and there are alot of people who enjoyed the likes of red steel and raving rabbids too. Trauma center was great, paper mario too. Then there were the likes of mario strikers charged and sonic. This christmas is getting a huge influx of quality gaming and niche delights, Endless ocean looks great, between now and early next you have have the massive nintendo franchises too. The library is getting fleshed out, but overall I wasn't satisfied with my collection until 7 months after the wii launched when elebits came out.

Totally agree with this guy!

My Wii is collecting dust but it may well be time to break out my feather duster and start using the Wii!!
My Wii is currently called ''the youtube thing'' by my mates. We are having occasional fun on it, but I never, ever play alone. Still waiting for Metroid 3 over here, and Trauma Center, believe it or not has only just been released. Looking at future releases, I can only see myself playing Nintendo releases, SMG first and foremost, withonly a fewnotable exceptions. I suppose if I only owned a Wii, I would find more things to play.

Pretty much horrible, unless you really love Nintnedo there just isn't anything worth buying. I don't think much of this year line-up either. It doesn't help that it feels like I'm plyaing last gen games evertime I pick one up and the motion control is almost never particularily fun to use. Honestly, I cannot fathom why people continue to buy the system en masse given its current state.Sorry I can't be more positive, that's just the way I feel.
