Electronic Arts positioning itself to release a console.

They certainly have the catalog and it has been rumored before. Thoughts on this anyone? This is what I think will happen. Bioware puts out great games. Their releases seem few and farin betweento justify the price however. Either Bioware/Pandemic has something in the fire that is HOT or this gives EA so much more room for future endeavors. Electronic Arts positioning itself to release a console.
They certainly have the resources.Electronic Arts positioning itself to release a console.
I can imagine the name... ''Madden Station 360''
I think they planned one quite a long time ago, but didn't work out too well. Not sure, though.
Well they certainly have the catalog of IP's to support it but I still don't really see them going this route. Making games for every available console seems much more beneficial finacially then say if they were to make their own console and just make games for that. Also I can't really imagine what kind of console they could create that would bring anything new to the table with what is currently available. Yeah I realise the potential for ''teh funny'' with the previous sentence. :P
No way, not in a million generations later. It makes no sense from a business point of view. One word, ''Madden.'' Madden alone brings home the bacon for EA every year as well as their other sport titles. EA makes so much money with their sports line and they do this by selling their titles on multi-platforms every year. It would make absolutely no sense for them to invest millions, if not, a billion in making their own console when people already have 360's, PS2s, and PS3s to play Madden. I don't think people will fork over another half a grand for a new EA console just to play Madden, it makes no sense and I'm sure EA knows this too.EA is the largest ''third-party'' publisher/developer in the world for a good reason and if they make their own console, they'd risk losing more than half of their business. Unless the CEO's at EA get super arrogant, ambitious, and greedy thinking they can take over the gaming world by making their own system, I don't think this would ever happen. How can EA compete with Nintendo or Sony on a first-party level for example? No way.I think EA is just fine on their own as a third-party publisher. Their already swimming in money so it makes no sense for them to make a console.
I think i hear another Sega follower, if EA did make a console they'll probably end up like sega just making games.

Exactly. As I said earlier, its about the money. EA makes far more money on making games than they would making the hardware to play the games on. Look at how much money Microsoft and Sony are losing (initially) to have hardware out. But the difference here is, Both Microsoft and Sony have ''backup plans''. They both have their fingers in other pies. (PC software/pereferals, and Other electronics). Nintendo doesn't have that sort of backup support, and thus they were arguably ''forced'' into making a cheaper console. I salute Nintendo for the risks they take. (I still don't, and won't support them by buying a wii though). anyway, EA going hardware is highly unlikely in my eyes.

Not to mention there is already too much competition out there. If one of the three names drops out of the market, I would say EA would be the first candidate to pick up the slack. but as it is, there are 2 (3 if you include Nintendo in the same market as the 360/PS3) competitors in the race. If there were 4 choices out there, the market would be so far split it would be SO difficult to turn a profit.
I dunno. It'd be interesting, but I think it'd be more profitable (key word here) to keep being a dev and publisher for many platforms, rather than stationing themselves on one of their own.
I recall Square-Enix being publicly interested in releasing their own console. Something among the lines of it ''being the most logical step.''

Nah...they'll risk too much especially after they claimed that their goal was to make more than 75% of their financial income from the western market. And they made it specifically clear that they needed to go multi-platform to do this.Maybe before next-gen started they really believed they could do a console, arrogantly perhaps, but it looks like they need to stay a developer if they want to stay alive in this business.
OMG, where does this rumor keep coming from? There's a new thread for it every hour, despite the fact that it gets shot down over and over.People listen up: IT ALREADY HAPPENED
