Good for the ds, it is a good system despite what people say. Not saying the psp is a chump either though. There are alot of great games coming out for it too now. I guess this is a testament to how much Japanese love portable things.

Nice statistics, it's no surprise that the DS is hitting the ceiling again. I'm cheering as we speak!
I dig the fact that they can track that 47 Gameboy Micros sold in Japan last week.Here we can't even get our employment numbers right month by month (they always get adjusted down or up in later months), but we do know there are 47 more slightly happier people walking around Japan this week.
I'm surprised that the DS and PSP are only 550 units apart this week.
It's prolly due to the slim psp and crisis core.
The Japanese game market is more and more casual (hardcore gaming has been slowing dying there since the late 90's). Unless Sony and third parties starts offering up more minigame collections and suchlike I can't see the PSP rivalling the DS in sales numbers on a consistent basis.

I think games like Monster Hunter 2 and FFVII Crisis Core proves that hardcore games can be system sellers. Also, the number one DS game that sold this week is ASH the new RPG from Sakaguchi's Mistwalker, which is also a hardcore RPG.I think the better statement is that J-gamers are obsessed over RPGs and portable gaming more than anything. I really don't think it's the casual bent at all...this is just my opinion after seeing those insane numbers last two weeks with the PSP Slim and Crisis Core.
